Philosophy Information Service

The Specialized Information Service (FID) for Philosophy is developing the Philportal. This platform simplifies and optimizes access to specialized literature and research-relevant information for the field of philosophy. At the same time, it serves to increase the visibility of research projects and foster networking among researchers in the community.

Through the Philportal, users can access specialized academic literature and research-relevant information quickly and directly, regardless of their location. The platform covers the entire spectrum of philosophy from both historical and systematic perspectives. Representatives from the German Society for Philosophy (DGPhil) and the Society for Analytical Philosophy (GAP) are academic partners in the project.

The project is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and is a collaboration between the USB Cologne, the Department of Philosophy, and the Cologne Center for eHumanities (CCeH).

How the FID Works

  • The acquisition of primary and secondary literature — both national and international — subject to fees, in close coordination with the philosophy community. The focus is on E-Media.
  • Copyright-free scholarly literature, particularly editions not yet available in electronic form, is digitized retrospectively and made accessible.
  • Philosophical research resources freely available on the internet can be accessed centrally.
  • The Philportal brings together all data sources under a single web interface and, as a disciplinary communication infrastructure, promotes visibility and networking among researchers and their research projects.
