The collection of publications of the Gesellschaft für Rheinische Geschichtskunde (Association for Rhenish History)

The Gesellschaft für Rheinische Geschichtskunde was founded on 1 June 1881 on the initiative of the industrialist Gustav von Mevissen. It has the tasks of a historical commission for the area of the old Prussian Rhine province and promotes the research of the Rhine history predominantly by editions of sources on broad basis (political, church, social and economic, legal and cultural history), which constitute an indispensable backbone to the topics of the Rhine history for decades.
The impressive series of publications is gradually being digitised, indexed and made freely accessible on the Internet by the University and City Library in cooperation with the Society. The aim is to improve access to these important publications and to sustainably promote research into Rhineland history.
