We support students, academics, teaching staff and the institute libraries in a variety of ways, whether as project coordinators or with innovative technical services. You can find an overview here.
Ebooks for the campus
The USB is the service center for the campus-wide procurement of ebooks. The USB ebook team has in-depth knowledge of the various licensing and distribution models of publishers and also makes this knowledge available to the institute libraries for their ebook orders.

Digital services
In addition to the book collection, we offer extensive e-media packages. We also provide special digital services to make your study and work day at the University of Cologne easier.
Project coordination for retro-cataloging and data migration
One example is the Faculty of Philosophy's project: The aim is to bring all 1.9 million media in the faculty's 53 institute and seminar libraries into a single online catalog. After catalog data migration and retro-cataloguing, all titles can then be found in the university-wide search in the USB portal.
The USB is coordinating this project. It is financed by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
Digitize or host collections
The specialist and institute libraries of the University of Cologne often possess treasures of a special kind: e.g. research objects such as the copy collection or the coin collection of the Institute of Classical Studies.
Separata collections such as offprints, bequests, special manuscript maps or graphic collections require special treatment in their cataloguing.
Collection Preservation Consultation Hour
The Covering Service and the Bookbinding Workshop offer a consultation hour to campus libraries on topics relating to collection preservation.
Every last Wednesday of the month from 9.00 am to 11.00 am.
