But you’re also welcome to drop by on the spur of the moment.
Whether it’s a term paper or a thesis (bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral)—at the Long Writing Evening, you’ll receive personalized and tailored support. Whether you’re just getting started or right in the middle of the writing process, our writing experts are here to offer advice and encouragement. And by the way: We’re also happy to help with non-academic writing!
Overview & Schedule
- August 13, 2026, 4:30–9:30 p.m.
- Location: HWA
- At 4:30 p.m., we’ll start by introducing our “target.” Afterward, you’ll set your personal goals and discuss them with fellow students.
- Around 4:45 p.m., we’ll get down to writing. We’ll be using (and so will you) the Pomodoro Technique: 50 minutes of writing, 10-minute break (with some movement), 50 minutes of writing, …
- Our team will be available for advice throughout the session.
- To stave off hunger, we’ll place a group pizza order (at your own expense).
- There will be a “movement break” with online guidance after the meal break.
- After that, we’ll review the goals again. You’ll give each other feedback and adjust the goals as needed.
- Finally, we’ll discuss how it went and how you can best move forward.
Tip: The Writing Week at the Center for Writing
The next writing week will take place from August 24 to 28, 2026, at the TH Köln Education Workshop.

Writing is a process primarily used to communicate ideas. So why tackle it alone at home or in the library instead of exchanging ideas with other writers while you write? To make this possible for you, we’re organizing the Writing Week in collaboration with colleagues from the University and City Library and the Technical University of Cologne.
During Writing Week, you’ll work on your term papers, bachelor’s theses, or master’s theses alongside fellow students from both universities in the Educational Workshop. The rooms will be available for this purpose every day from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some rooms will be designated for quiet work, while others will be spaces where you can discuss your drafts, literature reviews, or revision strategies with one another. Peers from the Center for Writing and the Cologne University of Applied Sciences will be available so that you can go directly to them with any questions or problems and discuss them.
Every morning, you’ll set daily goals together with your fellow students, and we’ll discuss your progress in the evening so you can evaluate your plans and revise them if necessary. In addition, there’s a short daily session on various writing methods so you can learn about them and try them out for yourself.
If you’d like, you can join the “lunch group” during your lunch break and then get back into the swing of things with yoga when you return.
Above all, we want to have fun writing together!
