WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?
With its pop-up bar "BAR/RIKADE", the Kölnisches Stadtmuseum commemorates the protests and barricade fights for democratic rights, civil rights and the beginning of the women's movement 175 years ago in Cologne.
In addition, there is a free event programme with concerts, DJ parties, revolutionary song evenings and even open-stage actions!

WHY COOPERATE?
- The exhibition features a facsimile of Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto with its famous first sentence "A spectre is haunting Europe - ...". The booklet comes from the Sammlung Hermann Heinrich Becker - a comrade-in-arms of Marx, later Lord Mayor of the city of Cologne and already known during his lifetime (1820-1885) as "the red Becker" also because of his red hair.
- In our GreenTeam corner in the foyer, we display an original pamphlet on the electoral law of 1848: "Declaration of the Deputation of the Bürgerschaft der Stadt Köln".

In the Kaleidoscope of Modernity"

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:
The 1920s are considered a period of upheaval and experimentation in Western modernism. The radicality of this epoch still lends it a remarkable topicality in the 21st century. Like a kaleidoscope, our exhibition brings together the diversity of images and voices to form new constellations that sharpen the viewer's eye for the uniqueness as well as for the analogies to today. On the one hand, the decade was marked by a profound disruption, on the other hand, there was an unbroken belief in progress and an unprecedented surge of innovation in all areas of life. Wide-ranging artist networks, social upheavals, political divergences, mass communication and mobility contributed to the formation of urban, multicultural avant-gardes. It was an era of contrasts and conflicts.

"What was it actually like? History in games"
Niederrheinisches Freilichtmuseum Grefrath
Exhibition duration: 12 March to 10 September 2023
The current special exhibition of the Open Air Museum explores the presence of history in social and video games. The development of games with historical references began after the Second World War and continues today. Games of different genres use historical events as a starting point, but often mix fiction and history and give historical events an alternative course. The exhibition poses the question of how much history should be in games and should they only serve as an entertaining setting or also as a means of conveying historical facts? From board and card games to role-playing games and digital games, the exhibition shows how history has influenced games since the 19th century.

THE WHOLE DRAMA - Shakespeares „First Folio“ (1623)

William Shakespeare's legendary first complete edition is celebrating its 400th birthday. The exhibition "The Whole Drama" now features our First Folio edition, which is one of the top class I editions. The exhibition has been created in cooperation with the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum, the Theatre Studies Collection and the University and City Library of Cologne. In addition, there is a supporting programme with readings, theatre, music and a Shakespeare dinner. You can find the FRAMEWORK PROGRAMME for the anniversary under: www.shakespeare400.de
To mark the anniversary, we have digitised our valuable copy and are making it available on an open access platform. "First Folio Compared" is intended to enable a literary comparison of different copies and will go online in 2023.

"Hands off the Ruhr! The Ruhr Occupation 1923-1925"

"Am 11. Januar 1923 begann die Ruhrbesetzung, die als ein „Nachspiel“ des Ersten Weltkriegs begriffen werden kann. In den ersten Monaten dieses Jahres blickte das gesamte Land gebannt auf das Ruhrgebiet. Zehntausende belgische und französische Soldaten besetzten von Westen her die Region, die bis dahin nicht direkt vom „Großen Krieg“ betroffen war. Die Okkupation kam einer regelrechten Kriegsbesetzung gleich, da die Besatzer mit Infanterie, Kavallerie, Panzern, Fahrradverbänden sowie Maschinengewehr-Einheiten in die Städte des Reviers einrückten. Der Grund des Einmarsches bestand in ausgebliebenen Reparationslieferungen, die Deutschland an Frankreich und Belgien im Zuge des Versailler Vertrags leisten musste. [...]
Die Ausstellung spannt einen Bogen vom Einmarsch der Truppen im Januar 1923 bis zu den Feierlichkeiten aus Anlass des Abzugs 1925. Im Mittelpunkt stehen dabei die Erfahrungen der einheimischen Bevölkerung und der Besatzungssoldaten vor Ort. Zudem wird das Gedenken an die Besetzung thematisiert. Für das Ruhrgebiet markiert diese Phase im Schatten des Weltkriegs den Beginn einer sich entwickelnden regionalen Identität."

»Dafür sorgen, dass hier zu sein genügt«, so benennt die amerikanische Künstlerin Roni Horn ihre Arbeit, die wir als Titel und Auftakt für unsere Jahresausstellung gewählt haben. Mit der Ausstellung untersuchen wir anhand von Kunstwerken aus vielen Jahrhunderten das Verhältnis von Ort und Subjekt. Wie nehmen wir uns – bewusst oder unbewusst – an Orten wahr und was machen Orte aus uns? Wie erinnern wir uns an Orte? Wie gehen wir mit Orten um, die wir nicht erreichen können? Spielen diese Orte für unsere Vorstellungskraft eine Rolle? Sind Orte, wenn wir sie verlassen, vergangen? Was geschieht mit ihnen, wenn sie nach ihrem Untergang von neuen Geschichten überschrieben werden? Kolumba selbst liefert den Ausgangspunkt dieser Fragen, indem es eine 2000jährige (Bau-)Geschichte und mehrfache Überschreibungen – etwa von Kirche und Friedhof zu Museum und Garten – sichtbar macht.
