Working group on provenance recording

Example of provenance: Dedication by Hannah Arendt to Ernst and Hanna Vollrath, 11D2255

Why should provenances be recorded in a structured and centralised manner?

In order to ensure that all interested parties have access to provenance information, a central recording is necessary. In the UCL database, all data converge and can be used for different applications without having to re-enter them. This saves work and time. The data is searchable and exportable and, due to its structure, "equipped" for the future. This means that we can also use it in future programs.

The Working Group on Provenance Research and the Cologne System

In the UCL, we have developed the model of provenance recording, which makes a network independent, standard data supported and exportable recording possible. The provenance data are anchored in the Integrated Authority File (GND) of the German National Library. In the meantime, the university libraries of Bonn, Detmold and Münster also work with the Cologne system. The Landesbibliothekszentrum Rheinland Pfalz is currently examining the technical possibilities, but is already participating in the meetings of the Working Group on Provenance Recording.
The working group developed a provenance record for SISIS libraries, which can, however, also be used in other library systems. The working group meetings take place twice a year. Further interested persons are welcome!
