In a pilot project, we are jointly funding the following three monographs by the Mercator Institute for Language Development and German as a Second Language as open access publications by Waxmann Publisher.

The Mercator Institute is an institute of the University of Cologne initiated and funded by the Mercator Foundation. It aims to improve language education and to this end researches and develops innovative concepts, measures and instruments for language education and the professionalization of educators.

For many years, we have supported authors at the University of Cologne through our own open access solutions as well as through financial support for individual and nationwide open access initiatives. This pilot project is a special one for the USB, as we are realizing partial funding here in cooperation directly with a publisher, which creates entirely new opportunities in this form.
