In its current form, the library of the Catholic parish of St. Gertrud in Herzogenrath comprises about 700 volumes. It was fed from various sources: To the book bequest of the Herzogenrath priest Tilmann Laurent Turck (1779-1823) of St. Mariae Himmelfahrt, other collections were added over time, finally a smaller collection from the former parish of St. Gertrud, Afden. The core of Turck's estate is a smaller part of the library of the neighboring former Augustinian canonry Klosterrath (today Rolduc) in Kerkrade (Netherlands); these volumes are often marked with the ownership note "Abbatiae Rodenses".
As is to be expected with such libraries, the holdings are largely dominated by theological literature. The emphasis is on pastoral literature of the 18th century (collections of sermons, liturgica, moral theology, devotional literature), but it goes back to the early 16th century, especially with editions of the Church Fathers (Augustine, Jerome, John Chrysostom, and others). Due to the proximity to the Netherlands and the French cultural area, publications in these languages and from the corresponding places of printing (Antwerp, Brussels ,The Hague, Paris) play an important role. However, publications from other subjects and regions (geography or church history, prints from Ingolstadt or Venice) are by no means missing.
