Building consortial Open Access solutions

From January 2023, a total of six titles from the media and social sciences will be jointly funded for three years by almost 70 different institutions. From 2023 onwards, the publishing bodies undertake to comply with the KOALA minimum standards, which include not only open access, but also points such as long-term archiving, metadata standards, ethical guidelines and the renunciation of data tracking. The KOALA consortium model is intended, among other things, to offer authors the opportunity to publish Open Access without additional costs and bureaucratic effort.

The USB Cologne has been participating financially in KOALA since 2023.

The KOALA pilot portfolio comprises the following bundles 2023 - 2025:

KOALA Media Sciences 2023

KOALA Social Science 2023

With 2024 - 2026, two new bundles are added::

KOALA Mathematics/Informatics 2024

KOALA Quantum physics 2024
