Gaming Night at the USB | 17.00-22.00

On April 4, 2025, the university library will become a meeting place for gaming fans. As researchers, you will be faced with tricky decisions in a dilemma game and games on research data management, data literacy and open science await you. Fans of retro gaming are also in the right place this evening! In the foyer, you will be given a curator's tour of our exhibition “Games Geschichte(n)” and our group study room will become a retro gaming station for one evening.

17.3019.00: Research Dilemma Game (in English)

In a collaborative dilemma game, you will take on the role of a researcher faced with ethically tricky decisions and be challenged to readjust your moral compass. We look forward to discussing these research dilemmas with experts from the university and you!

19.1522.00: Retro game station

Our group study room on the first floor will be transformed into a retro game station on this evening. Come along and play!

19.30–22.00: Open Science Games Night (in English and German)

Come and join us for an informal games night on the topics of research data management, data literacy, Open Science, and more. From board and card games to Lego, you can look forward to both fun and serious games, all offering the opportunity to exchange ideas, experiences, and aspirations about research practices with both students and researchers.

You can join or leave the games at any time - just as you like!

18.00 | 20.00: Curator guided tour of our exhibition “Games-Geschichte(n)”

Only on Gaming Night will Isabelle Hamm and Peter Podrez from the Institute for Media and Theater guide you through our current exhibition on the history of computer games. They curated the exhibition together with Prof. Benjamin Beil. From the first arcade machines of the 1970s and 80s to the latest game consoles and gaming PCs, it shows the development of the gaming world. The success story of the global games industry and the rise of Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft are also covered. Discover how the industry has changed over the years! Duration: approx. 30 min.

The meeting point for the guided tours is infront of the group study room.

Of course you can also attend the Gaming NIght without a library card. Please contact the security staff, who will then let you through.
