Our Workstations in the Main Department | Universitätsstraße
Group Workroom on the Ground Floor
32 workstations at 4 large tables, 3 of which are equipped with large monitors. You can connect to the monitors via permanently installed HDMI cables. For other connection types, you can use your own adapters.
Workstations in the reading rooms, 1st and 2nd floors
- 800 workstations, over 400 of which have power outlets.
- Please bring your own laptop.
- Wi-Fi access via eduroam is available. Wi-Fi Terms of Use
- Workstations without power outlets: You can charge your mobile device during breaks in the charging lockers (Reading Room I, 1st floor).
- Reserve your workstation in the reading rooms online.
Internet Workstations
We offer a total of 13 Internet workstations spread across two floors:
Internet room on the 1st floor
- 8 workstations
- These stations are primarily intended for external users who wish to access our full-text e-resources here.
- Log in using your library card number.
- Here, you can access, save, and take home our entire collection—with very few exceptions—of databases, e-books, and e-journals covered by the campus license.
Computers on the second-floor gallery
- 5 workstations – Work just like at home for students at the University of Cologne
- Software Available at the Workstations
- Access to our full range of databases, e-books, and e-journals, plus the complete Office suite and the ability to easily download your own programs.
- Log in here with your student or staff account.
- You can easily save your search results.
Parent-child room on the 1st floor
On the 1st floor, next to reading room I, a parent-child room with all the amenities has been created. There you will find a breastfeeding chair, play carpets, four workstations with electricity, bouncing animals, comfortable children's chairs, a KidsBox, a blackboard including colourful chalk and much more. We have also thought of a pram parking space on the " bridge " in reading room I.
The KidsBox contains: books, Lego, cot, child's seat, changing mat, (gymnastics) mat, building blocks, pens, diapers
Information about the use:
- The room is intended for parents with children.
- Reservation is unfortunately not possible.
- You will receive the key for the room at the reading room issue in reading room I.
The parent-child room was designed in coordination with the working group Studying with Children and the Career & Family Support of the University of Cologne.
Accessible Workplaces
- Workspace at the Inclusion Service Center on the 2nd floor: one workstation with a desktop computer, one workstation for using your own laptop, and a screen reader
- For more information on workstation equipment, please visit the SZI website
- Accessible elevator: All floors are accessible by elevator. To use the elevator, you will need a EURO key, which is also available for loan at the entrance control desk.
- Accessible restrooms: There are two accessible restrooms on the ground floor.
Our workplaces in the Department of Human Sciences | Gronewaldstraße
We provide a total of 30 workstations with Internet access.
Multimedia workstations
- 27 workstations - work like at home for students of the University of Cologne
- 23 in the Human Sciences Reading Room and 4 in the Therapeutic Education Reading Room
- Access to our entire range of databases, e-books and e-journals plus the complete Office programme as well as statistics and learning software packages.
- Log in here with your student or staff account.
- You can conveniently print and save your research results.
Internet workstations
- 4 workstations - access for everyone with a library card to our entire range of databases, e-books and e-journals
- 2 in the stacks and 2 in the remedial education reading room
- Log in with the number of your library card.
- You can save your results and take them home with you.

Workstations without PC/hardware equipment
52 power-supplied workstations in the Human Sciences Reading Room - study and work on site with and without a laptop.
Please bring your laptop with you. Students and employees of the University of Cologne and guests from other universities can use the WLAN via eduroam at the University of Cologne.
